Nelly Korda Reveals Gruesome Dog Bite Injury That Forced Her to Withdraw

English golf fans missed out on the chance to see Nelly Korda last year when the women’s world No.1 pulled out of the Aramco Team Series London event.

Korda had been due to defend her title at Centurion Golf Club in Hemel Hempstead, but was forced to withdraw having been bitten by a dog in a Seattle café.

The incident came just a day after Korda was left in tears after a second-round 81 left her well shy of the cut mark at the 2024 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.

“On Saturday in Seattle, I was bitten by a dog and need time to receive treatment and recover fully,” she wrote in a statement.”

Not much was known about the severity of Korda’s injury at the time and she did not divulge on the details, other than the fact she’d been bitten on the thigh.

Now, though, we know. Korda has shared a pretty gruesome image of the dog bite in a throwback post on her Instagram story.

“Throwing it back to a year ago when I got bit by a dog in a coffee shop,” she wrote.

Korda, who is winless on the LPGA this season despite two runner-up finishes, was not the only player to be bitten by a dog in the 2024 season.

American Compatriot Alison Lee also suffered a nasty injury after being bitten by her boyfriend’s rescue dog ‘Bear’ last January.

Lee was left with open wounds in her left hand and was forced to spend two nights in hospital.

The incident caused a couple of open wounds in her left hand and ultimately put 29-year-old Lee in hospital for two nights after being diagnosed with lymphangitis.

Korda and Lee spoke about their injuries last year.

“She asked me a lot about what my symptoms were when I got my dog bite,” Lee said.

“My dog bite got seriously infected, so I was actually hospitalised for three days. But yeah, it’s an unfortunate circumstance and definitely scary.”
